European Studies

Modul KU The European Union (VU4/7,5 ECTS)
This course was especially designed for students with no economics or business background and its aim is to allow students to develop their knowledge and understanding of Europe and the European Union.
The new millennium brought a lot of new and interesting developments in the European Union all young European citizens in higher education should be aware of. By the time students have finished working through the 10 units of this course they should have some knowledge of the socio-economic geography of Europe, the economic and political situation in Europe, the place that the European Union has within Europe, the evolution of the EU and its future, the institutions of the EU and the main European items, i.e. the enlargement, the enactment of legislation, a common currency, the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) and a common foreign and security policy.

Modul KU Intercultural Communication (VU4/7,5 ECTS)
Intercultural Communication is the management of messages for the purpose of creating meaning across cultures. Culture can be defined as “A socially constructed and historically transmitted pattern of symbols, meanings, apprentices, and rules.” Or, as Hofstede expressed it, it is “The collective programming of the mind which distinguishes the members of one category of people from another”. When Europeans communicate the follow patterns of communication programmed into them in various stages of their childhood and adult life. Ever seen a Chinese film? Then you will understand that expressions differ with the cultural background.

Nach Absolvierung beider Kurse wird das Zertifikat European Studies ausgestellt.
