Open Access publishing in Elsevier journals


Since January 2020, a new offer allows members of the University of Innsbruck and the Medical University of Innsbruck to publish open access free of charge with Elsevier.
The offer applies to articles submitted by authors to Elsevier starting from 1 January 2020. Therefore, the date of submission is the date relevant to Elsevier and not the date of acceptance.


Which journals can researchers of the universities publish in?

You can publish open access in around 1,700 Elsevier hybrid journals. You can find a title list here.


Who can publish open access?

Eligible are authors, who

  • are corresponding authors of the articles and members of the University of Innsbruck or the Medical University of Innsbruck
  • use their institutional email address in the process of submission
  • whose article were submitted to a hybrid journal of Elsevier after the 31 December 2019 and later accepted
  • are publishing an article of the following typ: Case Report, Data, Full-length article, Original software publication, Practice Guidelines, Protocol, Review article, Replication Studies, Short communication, Short survey, Video Article

ATTENTION: It is not permitted to retrospectively change the corresponding author after peer review.


Procedure/Verification Process:

Please indicate your affiliation to the University of Innsbruck or the Medical University of Innsbruck when submitting the article. The verification of authors' affiliation with universities is done through the indication of the institution and the use of the institutional email domain. After the authorisation verification through the University Library, the author will receive a licence agreement by Elsevier, which he/she must sign and return to the publisher – via the author dashboard – together with the selected CC licence.
