1st semester (30 ECTS credits)

Strategy and Digital Business Models (10 ECTS)

Discussion and application of frameworks to develop and implement strategies on the corporate and business unit level, understand the fundamentals of disruptive innovation, and the design of digital business models.

Business and Data Analytics (10 ECTS)

Introduction to business and data analytics from the perspective of strategic decision-makers. Insights into analytical methods as well as training in analytical skills in the systematic collection, processing, analysis, and interpretation of data to improve strategic decision-making.

Innovation Management (10 ECTS)

Insights into innovation management ranging from innovation strategy, innovation organization, innovation process, innovation culture, and innovation tools to innovation projects, as well as in-depth analysis as well as the practical application of current innovation tools.

2nd semester (30 ECTS credits)

Entrepreneurship (10 ECTS)

Foundations of entrepreneurial thinking and activity in different organizational contexts and the specific requirements of setting up start-ups. Developing, founding, and building your own start-up, exploring methods and concepts for designing entrepreneurial ventures, and realizing business plans, prototypes, and pitch presentations.

Strategy Implementation (5 ECTS)

Addressing the digital revolution that is quickly transforming the nature of many companies over a wide range of industries. In-depth consideration of methods, concepts, and approaches related to encouraging, implementing, managing, and maintaining strategy and change in organizations.

Innovation Ecosystems (5 ECTS)

Field trip to a world-leading innovation ecosystem for a deeper understanding of the success factors and characteristics of a successful innovation ecosystem.

Digital Innovation & Transformation (5 ECTS)

Addressing and discussing changes in industrial and organizational innovation activities, processes, and capabilities to take advantage of opportunities of the digital revolution.

Organizational Leadership (5 ECTS)

Introduction to key concepts of leadership in organizations, the role of leadership styles in the context of organizational structures, and concepts relevant to influence groups and organizations.

International Management (5 ECTS)

Fundamentals of international management and case studies in the management of international businesses.

Current Topics in Strategy & Innovation (5 ECTS)

In-depth application of current topics, concepts, approaches, tools, and techniques in strategy and innovation.

Selected elective courses from the Master Program “Marketing & Branding”

Selected elective course (10 ECTS) from other master studies of the Faculty of Business and Management and the Faculty of Economics and Statistics based on availability

Selected elective courses „Interdisciplinary competences“ (10 ECTS) from other master studies of the University of Innsbruck based on availability

3rd semester (30 ECTS credits)

Advanced Research in Strategy and Innovation (10 ECTS)

Introduction and application of advanced research approaches and techniques in the field of strategy and innovation management.

Elective courses 3rd semester (20 ECTS credits in total)

Can be chosen from a number of different subjects

Innovation Diffusion (5 ECTS)

Insights into the diffusion of innovations along the product life cycle, examination of concepts and models of diffusion and processes of adoption of innovations, discussion of the suitability of strategies and models for specific customer groups.

Innovation Lab (5 ECTS)

Application of an agile and lean-oriented innovation format. Participants from different disciplines work together to prototype solutions to real innovation challenges. The work will be organized in agile sprints following the 3 stages: 1) Learn and understand; 2) Ideate and concept; 3 Build and test. Ideally, students collaborate with real company problems, support start-ups, or help to build on university spin-offs.

Software-based Strategic Management (5 ECTS)

Application and in-depth discussion of software-based business processes based on various software solutions, such as Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERPS) and Business Intelligence Systems (BIS).

Entrepreneurial Finance (5 ECTS)

Basics of business valuation, options for financing start-ups for various rounds of financing, analysis of financing options for starting a business and their impact, creating investment plans to create and valuation of start-ups.

Strategy and Sustainability (5 ECTS)

Discussion of economic, social, and environmental challenges to the strategic direction of businesses, as well as theoretical concepts related to sustainability and natural resource management.

4th semester (30 ECTS credits)

Master Thesis Concept (2.5 ECTS)

Planning your master thesis and developing a concept – typically begins already in the 3rd semester.

Master Thesis Seminar (2.5 ECTS)

Guiding students through the process of designing, executing, and presenting their Master theses.

Master's Thesis (25 ECTS)

The master's thesis is to be completed in the fourth semester. It offers the opportunity to apply acquired knowledge and methods in competent research of strategic management questions.

 


Study Abroad!

A semester abroad is not mandatory, but you can spend a semester at one of our partner universities during the second or third semester. Currently, we have signed cooperation with the following European partner universities (ERASMUS):

Internships and Jobs

 

There is no mandatory internship in our Master's program. During breaks, however, many of our students complete an internship, which is often a door opener for later trainee and permanent positions. Thanks to our excellent network of local and international companies, we are happy to support you in finding challenging internships.
