Frequently Asked Questions

  • How can I apply for the master’s program? ↓

Applications for study programs at Innsbruck University must be submitted online. Please follow the instructions via the following link

For further questions concerning your application, please approach the Admission Department

  • Am I eligible to apply for the master’s program in Marketing and Branding? ↓

Admission to the master's program Marketing and Branding requires the skill to combine a profound knowledge of marketing, strategy, organization, innovation, and accounting with knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods. It is assumed that this knowledge has been attained if both equivalence of a bachelor’s degree and qualitative requirements are fulfilled as follows:

    1. Equivalence must be fulfilled with the applicant’s bachelor’s degree. This means that the completed bachelor’s degree must cover the following core areas (without taking the bachelor’s thesis into account):

    • 92,5 ECTS credits in business studies and economics, therefrom at least 50 ECTS credits in business subjects.
    • A posteriori completion of the above mentioned criterion is not possible.

    2. Qualitative entrance requirements must be fulfilled as follows:

    • 12,5 ECTS credits in marketing, retailing, strategic management, or service management.
    • 10 ECTS credits in (management and financial) accounting.
    • 10 ECTS credits in mathematics, statistics, or research methods.
    • These criteria can be completed on top to the equivalent bachelor’s degree.
    • Graduates of the Bachelor's Programme Management and Economics and the Diploma Programme International Economic and Business Studies at the University of Innsbruck automatically meet these qualitative admission requirements.
  • Can I apply when I do not  yet have my bachelor certificate?↓

Yes, you can apply assuming that you have completed all courses (incl. your bachelor thesis). Your transcript of records needs to show all ECTS credits. Ideally, you also add a confirmation letter that confirms that you have completed your studies. Send the bachelor degree as soon as you have it. This only applies for EU citizens.

  • Can I be accepted for master’s program, if equivalence has been established in principle but with certain requirements (i.e., ECTS) missing? Can I catch up any of the entrance requirements (i.e., ECTS) while studying in the master’s program? ↓

Currently, it is the policy of the department to interpret the admission criteria as a prerequisite for starting the master’s program. Mainly because we believe that you need this knowledge from day 1 on. This means that all requirements must be fulfilled prior to the beginning of your studies.

  • Can all students that have been admitted by the admission department start the master’s program? ↓

In general yes - there is no limit regarding the number of students. However, please be informed that some modules of the master program are consecutive. For example, three courses (Market Research & Data Analytics, Strategic Marketing & Branding, Digital Marketing) are a pre-requirement to start many of the elective courses. These courses are only offered in the fall semester.

  • Is it possible to start the program in spring? ↓

You can enroll in the program at any time. However, you might not be able to enroll in courses. For example, three courses (MarketResearch & Data Analytics, Strategic Marketing & Branding, Digital Marketing) are a pre-requirement to start many of the elective courses. These courses are only offered in the fall semester. Thus, the actual intake / start of the program is in October.

  • Is working experience a requirement? ↓

  • What should be attached to the application? ↓

For further information go to the homepage of the central study department .

  • When does the 1st semester start or what is the deadline for enrolling in the master's program Marketing and Branding?↓

Officially, you can enroll at the University of Innsbruck until 30th November (EWR citizens only). However, the courses start right at the beginning of the semester (i.e., beginning of October). This means that you need to be enrolled right by the beginning of October for participating in the courses.

We therefore recommend that you apply for the master's program by mid August at the latest. Above all, please take into account that the review of your documents takes time and the earliest possible application is only for your benefit.

  • When receiving the application, is a confirmation sent out to the students? ↓

Yes. The admission department is sending out an information letter.

  • Why does the admission notification take so long? ↓

Usually notifications are sent out within a few weeks. However, in July/August/September the admission department is confronted with truckloads of applications so it will take longer. Also, if your application is not complete, or the admission department needs to engage in further inquiries, the application procedure takes longer. To be on the safe side, send your application before the end of July.
