AK-Science Award 2018

Again, the Chamber for Salaried and Waged Employees in Upper Austria offers the AK-Science Award for 2017 or 2018 resp. finished scientific papers, which aim at improving the working and living conditions of employees. The prize money amounts to 9,000 Euros and will be distributed on three awardees.

The jury will decide on the distribution and the height of the respective award. This year’s topic is: “Distributive Justice: Austria put to test”. A detailed description of the research questions and a possible selection of topics can be found at: ooe.arbeiterkammer.at

Criteria for the prize are

  • agreement with the objections  of the award, the research question for the award and the
  • reference to the conditions in Austria,
  • conformity with the basic  attitudes of the chamber,
  • scientific quality,
  • the practical value for the work of the representatives of the employees.

Eligible

This science award is aimed at “young” researchers at the beginning of their scientific career. Professors at universities or universities of applied sciences may not apply. Bachelor’s thesis and papers financed by research assignments are not allowed. Supported papers are eligible. If the prize is given to a paper, which has already been supported by the chamber (provincial or federal chamber), then the already received money is deducted from the prize money.  Repeated application of an awardee and the repeated handing in of the same paper are not allowed. Employees of the Chamber of Employees may not apply.

Award, application period and documents to hand in

The awarding of the prize is conducted by a jury set up by the Chamber of Salaried and Waged Employees of Upper Austria. The decision is made excluding the jurisdiction of a court. Applications must be handed in by 29 June 2018 at the Upper Austrian Chamber of Salaried and Waged Employees, staff unit of science and research management, Volksgartenstraße 40, 4020 Linz. The following documents are required: application letter, CV, the paper and a short version of the paper (3 to 5 pages) in print and digital format (e-mail, USB-stick, CD-Rom). On handing in the paper it must be specified whether already a support has been received or the paper has been handed in for another prize. The papers may be written in German or English.
