Proof of Special University Entrance Qualification

If your citizenship and your school-leaving certificate or degree come from a non-EU/EEA Country,

  • you may study only those programmes in Austria, you are allowed to study in the country in which you completed your school certificate / university degree,
  • must a university, which is recognised by this country and offers the same study programme, confirm that you have the right to study there (= proof of the special university entrance qualification, “confirmation of a university place”).

This confirmation may not be older than one year and must contain the following points:

  • your name
  • the date of issue
  • the exact name of the study programme (the name of a faculty is not sufficient)
  • the confirmation that you meet all the requirements to study the programme in the country, in which your school-leaving certificate or degree was issued.

You can get proof of the special university entrance qualification

  • from an acknowledged university in the country in which your school-leaving certificate or degree was issued
  • from a central authority, e.g. in China or Turkey
  • with an entrance or admission examination taken in the country, in which your school-leaving certificate or degree were issued.

 If you are already studying the programme in the country, in which your school-leaving certificate or degree was issued, please hand in your current confirmation of registration (current semester or year of study).

Exceptions to the Special University Qualification

In the following cases no proof of the special university qualification is required:

  • Your citizenship and/or your school-leaving certificate come from a EU/EEA country.
  • You have completed at least a 3-year post-secondary study programme in an EU/EEA country and apply for admission to a Bachelor’s, Diploma or Master’s programme.
  • You fall into the Austrian Regulation on Eligible Groups of Persons
  • You have completed at least a 3-year post-secondary study programme in the USA and apply for admission to a Bachelor’s, Diploma or Master’s Programme.
  • You have completed at least a 3-year post-secondary study programme in a non-EU / EEA country as well as a Master’s Programme in a Non-EU / EEA country and apply for admission to a Master’s Programme.
