The main research interest of Marcello Dalmonte is the investigation of many-body phenomena motivated by atomic and molecular systems. Such systems pose, from the one hand, new challenges in the spirit of theoretically understanding of complex phases of matter and, form the other hand, an ideal platform to investigate and simulate novel physical phenomena in controlled environment. Lately, his research activity has been mostly devoted to the physics of quantum gases confined in low-dimensionality, and to the development of quantum engineering tools in search for topological phases and emergent gauge symmetries.
