Best Student Paper Award

Mai Anh Dao was awarded with the Best Student Paper Award of Innsbruck University for her first-authorship of “Triggering Innovation Through Merger and Acquisitions: The Role of Shared Mental Models”. The paper is co-authored by Andreas Strobl, Florian Bauer and Shlomo Y. Tarba, and has been published in Group & Organization Management.


Best Paper Award EURAM 2016

Florian Bauer, David R. King, Svante Schriber, and Kurt Matzler received the best paper award in the corporate strategy track of the EURAM conference 2016 for their paper„Acquisition Characteristics, Integration Choices, and Performance: A Process Perspective“.




Award of Excellence 2015

Viktoria Veider has won the “Award of Excellence” by the Austrian Federal ministry of Science, Research and Economy (bmwfw). This award, inaugurated in 2008 by Dr. Johannes Hahn, is given each year to 40 exceptional doctoral theses that deserve recognition for their academic endeavors. The award ceremony took place at the Palais Harrach in Vienna on December 4th, 2015.

The Master Thesis “The Common Ground Phenomenon and its Influence on Cultural and Task Integration in M&A” by our Strategic Management Master graduate (and now PhD student) Mai Anh Dao was awarded the “Graf Chotek Hochschulpreis der Tiroler Sparkasse 2015”!

The paper “Business model innovation: coffee triumphs for Nespresso” by Kurt Matzler, Franz Bailom, Stephan Friedrich von den Eichen, and Thomas Kohler, published in the Journal of Business Strategy (2013, Vol. 34, Issue 2), achieved over 25,000 downloads in 2 years, and has been the most-downloaded paper in the journal of the past 12 months.

Viktoria Veider received the Best PhD Student Paper Award at the 10th Workshop on Family Firm Management Research in Bergamo (Italy) for her single author submission “Innovation in the Family Firm: How Different Types of Family Influences Shape Exploration and Exploitation Activities"!

Mai Anh Dao, graduate of our master program “Strategic Management“ won the Value Days Award 2014 for her master thesis about mergers & acquisitions. She was able to assert herself against several candidates from all German-speaking countries. Additionally, Britta Koch (graduate of the same master program) was nominated for her master thesis about open strategy.

2013 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards

Dr. Andreas Strobl’s dissertation “Die Relevanz von Netzwerken zur Generierung von Unternehmensressourcen (The relevance of networks for generating company resources)” has been chosen, by the editorial team of International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, as a Highly Commended Award winner of the 2013 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards in the Hospitality Management category.



WKO Preis 2013    

Science Award of the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce

Viktoria Veider has won the science award 2013 of the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce for her Master Thesis called “The Interdependence of Organizational Sustainability, Firm Innovativeness and Brand Equity and their influence on Company Performance”. The price was handed over by the rector of the University of Innsbruck, Prof. Dr. Tilmann Märk, as well as the president of the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Jürgen Bodenseer.

Count Chotek University Award 2013, Tiroler Sparkasse

Viktoria Veider (to the very right) from the department of strategic management, marketing and tourism was granted the count Chotek special sustainability award. Using the example of the company Prinoth, Viktoria Veider shows that the relative amount of sustainable action and innovation in the company substantially influences firm performance, as well as brand equity. 




Value Day Award 2013 – Stream Strategy

Lukas Northrup, a former student in our master program “Strategic Management“ won the Value Day Award 2013 (Stream Strategy) at the FH Vorarlberg (Austria) for his master thesis “Heterophily in Innovation Contests“.

Kurt Matzler received the WiWi Award for Excellence in Publishing for the Year 2011 by the Faculty of Economic Sciencies of the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt for his Journal article:

Finalist SMS Best Conference Paper Award in Miami

The conference contribution of Julia Hautz at the 31. Annual International Conference der Strategic Management Society (SMS) in Miami, 2011, ("Competitive Context of Diversification" together mit Prof. Michael Mayer, University of Bath, and Dr. Christian Stadler, University of Warwick, UK) was nominated for the SMS Best Conference Paper Prize together with 46 additional papers from more than 600 conference contibutions. After an additional review process the paper was voted among the 10 Finalists.


Julia Hautz graduates sub auspiciis praesidentis rei publicae

Julia Hautz celebrated her doctoral graduation on 10th March 2011 under the auspices of the Austrian Federal President Dr. Heinz Fischer. A “Promotio sub auspiciis Praesidentis rei publicae“ is the highest Austrian Academic Award granted to all university graduates with excellent results in all compulsory subjects from the 9th grade of school to the doctoral thesis by the Austrian president. Hardly any other country grants such a high academic honour, especially one with similarly rigorous and demanding standards.

In November 2010 Julia Hautz was granted the Appraisal Award 2010 of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research

This award is granted for the best graduates of Austrian Universities for excellent achievements and dissertations.
