Biologische Psychologie / Biological Psychology
ao. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Harald R. Bliem »»»
Since 2003 I am in charge of Biological Psychology at our Institute. One important goal of the research in the area of Biological Psychology is to clarify the fundamental questions on mutual bio-psychological structure-function relationships, which in any science of human behavior, mind and brain are vital. Hence, most research efforts reflect an interdisciplinary approach along with multiple methods, taking into account the specific research issues in Biological Psychology.
Main research topics
Face Cognition
Theoretical and experimental analysis of neurocognitive and neuroemotional structures and processes in face cognition including the analysis of the role of magnocellular and parvocellular visual subsystems in face processing. (e.g.: Bliem, Walser, Kirchler, Juen, 2019; Bliem, 2015; Bliem, 2010; selected earlier papers: Uttner, Bliem, Danek, 2002, Journal of Neurology 249, 933-935; Bliem, 1998, Brain and Cognition 37, 16-18).
Human Stress System
Neuropsychological investigations of visuoperceptive and cognitive functions with posttraumatic stress disorder. Testosterone reactivity under social stress as well as cause-effect relations between sleep, stress, complementary and alternative medicine practice and the human immune system. (e.g.: Walser, Kirchler, Juen, Bliem, 2014; Miocevic, Schneider, Meyer, Phan, Bliem, Shirtcliff, 2015; Singer, Burbaum, Fritzsche, Peterlini, Bliem, Ocana-Peinado, Fuchs, Schubert, 2018; Singer, Ott, Bliem, Hladschik-Kermer; Ocana-Peinado, Chamson, Schubert, 2021).
Neuropsychological Rehabilitation
Empirical analysis of attention deficits following stroke and ability to drive a car in neuropsychological rehabilitation. Development of an individualized neuropsychological training program in a stationary/clinical setting. (e.g.: List & Bliem, 2016; List & Bliem, 2015).
Other research topics
