Über

Dieser Forschungsbereich widmet sich im Kern dem Vergleich politischer Institutionen und Prozesse in den konsolidierten liberalen Demokratien. Die Forschung wird in zwei organisatorischen Teileinheiten – "Comparative Political Institutions, Leadership and Governance" und "Österreichische Politik in komparativer Perspektive" – betrieben. Zu den besonderen Schwerpunkten gehört einerseits das international und historisch vergleichende Studium von Regierungen, Regierenden und Parlamenten, andererseits die empirische Analyse demokratischer Wahlen und der politischen Kommunikation. Als arenenübergreifendes Element der Forschungsagenda tritt die Auseinandersetzung mit Fragen des "comparative institutional engineering" und der Demokratiereform hinzu. In regionaler Hinsicht liegt der Schwerpunkt auf den demokratischen Systemen Westeuropas, unter besonderer Berücksichtigung Österreichs. Diese Agenden werden ergänzt durch weiter ausgreifende interkontinentale und transnationale Bezüge.
