Research interests

My research focuses on the philosophy of science, in particular of time, space and causation. I am furthermore interested in the interaction between science and theology. I pursue questions such as the following:

  • What are the upshots from special and general relativity for the philosophy of time?
  • “The past is fixed, the future is open” – is this common-sense view tenable?
  • Are we justified in viewing the development of the universe as a linear time series? Does the universe have a history?
  • What does it mean for an event to depend on another? How are temporal and causal priority related?
  • How are divine action and the laws of nature related if – as Karl Popper argued – we live in an indeterministic, open universe?
