High-Performance Multibody Dynamics Simulation

In cooperation with Linz Center of Mechatronics (LCM) GmbH, efficient simulation techniques for multi-body systems are being developed. The cooperation project with LCM, which has been running since 2015, is funded by a Comet-K2 center on Symbiotic Mechatronics. The focus is put on the parallelization and vectorization of mechanical systems, consisting of a multitude of rigid and flexible bodies, interconnected by joints and unilateral contacts. A new simulation kernel in HOTINT should meet the current developments of desktop CPUS, concerning the extension of SIMD commands (single instruction - multiple data) and the increasing number of cores. Finally, research is being conducted regarding the efficient implementation of time integrators ("Lie group integrators") and model reduction.
