Biography

 

Since June 2023, Mr. Rosani is assistant professor of criminal law and criminal procedure at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Domenico Rosani is a research and teaching associate in the Department of Italian Law at the University of Innsbruck, Sector of Criminal Law. He holds a PhD in Law from the Universities of Innsbruck and Padova, Italy. He previously worked for the EU Fundamental Rights Agency, the EU's centre of expertise providing human rights advice to Union's institutions and national governments. At Innsbruck University he teaches legal methodology and criminal law.

His current research deals with the criminal relevance of children's activities on the Internet from a comparative, international, European and public law perspective. Domenico has amply published on comparative criminal law, human rights, and international law. In addition, he has presented his research results at several international conferences.

Domenico has advised national, European and international institutions. He is a member of the working group in charge of updating the EU's Guidelines on promoting compliance with international humanitarian law (chair: Prof. Fausto Pocar). In addition, he is part of the Universities Network for Children in Armed Conflict's Delegation for the relations to the United Nations. Domenico is a member of the European Law Institute's task force drawing up a model law for the EU that criminalises 'ecocide', i.e. the destruction of the environment to the detriment of life. He is also part of the international research project "Natural Hazards in the Mountain Environment".

Domenico carried out research stays as a visiting scholar at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law (2021), at the European University Institute (2020) and at the Unicef Centre of Research - Innocenti (2020). He is an Individual Observer of the European Law Institute. Since 2013 he has been a member of the Italian Chamber of Journalists.

For his contribution 'We’re All in This Together’. Actors Cooperating in Enhancing Children’s Rights in the Digital Environment after the GDPR (in Hallinan/Leenes/Gutwirth/De Hert (eds.), Data Protection and Privacy: Data Protection and Democracy, Hart, Oxford 2020) he has been awarded the University's Best Student Paper Award 2020.
