Biography

Since 2018, Matthias Haller works as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Italian Law in the sector of Public Law.

After studying Italian Law in Innsbruck, Haller worked as a trainee at the District Court and the Public Prosecution Department in Innsbruck (2015), as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Italian Law (2016) and as a Project Assistant at the Department of European and International Law (2016/2017). In 2017 and 2018, he received a scholarship to work on his dissertation entitled "Südtirols Minderheitenschutzsystem: Grundlagen, Entwicklungen und aktuelle Herausforderungen aus völker- und verfassungsrechtlicher Sicht" (South Tyrol's System for the Protection of Minorities: Fundamentals, Developments and Current Challenges from an International and Constitutional Law Perspective). Already during his diploma studies, he worked as a Student Assistant (2013) and as a Project Assistant (2014/2015) at the University of Innsbruck, where, among other things, he contributed to the preparation of an expert opinion on the South Tyrolean autonomy.

Haller is a member of the University's Research Centre for Federalism and of the Euroregional Association for Comparative Public Law and European Law. In 2016 he was awarded the Franz Gschnitzer Prize for his diploma thesis.
