Meropi Tzanetakis received her master’s degree (with distinction) in Political Science, Media Studies and Communication Science in 2005 and earned her doctorate (with distinction) in Political Science in 2013, both at the University of Vienna. Doctoral thesis on the organisational structures of the illegal drugs trade in the European Union. Affiliate of the Research Platform "Governance of digital practices" at the University of Vienna (since 2021), Senior Postdoc Fellow at the Department of Political Science of the University of Vienna (2019-2021), Erwin Schrödinger Fellowship by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF, 2017–2019) and Senior Researcher at the Vienna Centre for Societal Security (prior IRKS Research GmbH, 2013-2017). Meropi was a visiting researcher at the Department of Sociology at the University of Essex (2018–2019), the Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law at the University of Oslo (2017–2018), the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin (2016–2017) and the Jacobs University Bremen (2011). Lecturer at the University of Vienna (since 2005), the University of Applied Sciences Campus Vienna (2021-2022), the University of Graz (2021) and the Freie Universität Berlin (2017). Editorial Board Member of the academic journal Kriminologisches Journal (KrimJ, since 2017) and elected Board Member of the Economic Sociology Research Network of the European Sociological Association (since 2021).
