Teaching and theses

The lecturers and professors at the Department of Ion Physics and Applied Physics are contributing to teaching in all Study programmes in physics and in courses on physics as subsidiary subject in other study programmes. An overview on all courses at University of Innsbruck is given by the Course catalog. Below, some particular information is compiled on thesis and seminar work at the department, and on the specialisation "Ion Physics and Applied Physics" in the physics MSc programme.

Bachelor's programme in physics

General information on the bachelor's programme (BSc) in physics:  Information by the Study Office.

Bachelor thesis and seminar:

We here (see Link) present each year in January our suggestions on topics for bachelor's thesis works at our department. Further possible topics can also be directly discussed with the respective supervisors.

Organisational information on the "Seminar mit Bachelorarbeit" 2022:

The SE2 "Seminar mit Bachelorarbeit" is regularly offered in the summer term, and includes an oral presentation and a written seminar thesis, which has to be submitted both to the seminar coordinator (Dr. Ionita-Schrittwieser) and to the supervisor in electronic (pdf) format. The volume should be around 20-30 pages (in 12pt Times font, 1.5 line spacing). The "Seminar mit Bachelorarbeit" is credited with 10 ECTS-AP, which amounts to a time effort of around 250 working hours. Documents such as the cover page, the obligatory statutory declaration and the final certificate can be found here.

Strictly necessary for registration (via LFU Online) is the positive achievement of courses amounting to 105 ECTS-AP from the mandatory modules of the physics bachelor's programme. The thesis topic is agreed with the supervisor and registered with the coordinator.

Master's programme in physics

General information on the master's programme (MSc) in physics:  Information by the Study Office.

In case of interest in pursuing a master thesis at our department, please directly contact the distinct lecturers and professors of the institute. We regularly offer topics related to the specialisation in "Ion physics and applied physics", "Many-body theory" and "Computational physics".

The recommended route to studying in the specialisation "Ion physics and applied physics" in the MSc programme in physics (as of Curriculum 2020) is introduced HERE (Link), within the info pages of the master's programme in physics.

The official equivalence list for acknowledgment of courses between the old and new MSc Physics curriculum has been published in the 6. Mitteilungsblatt 2020/2021.

PhD in physics

General information on the doctoral studies programme (PhD) in physics:  Information by the Study Office.

In case of interest in pursuing a PhD thesis at our department, please directly contact the lecturers and professors of the institute.

The department is hosting the FWF Doktoratskolleg DK-ALM "Atoms, Light and Molecules" and the EU MSCA Doctoral Programme DOCC "Dynamics of Complex Continua".
