Web Conference "Sustainable Development Goals as Part of the Narrative & Culture of Universities”

On Friday, 18 December 2020, Universität Innsbruck as part of its Aurora Alliance activities organised a virtual conference on the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for universities and their mission in teaching, research, third mission and operations. The conference took place with strong international but also national participation.

On Friday, 18 December 2020, Universität Innsbruck as part of its Aurora Alliance activities organised a virtual conference on the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for universities and their mission in teaching, research, third mission and operations. The conference took place with strong international but also national participation.

After a short welcome by Rector Tilmann Märk and introduction of the participants of the virtual panel by moderator and Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Teaching, Bernhard Fügenschuh, Guest Professor (ILS) Dr. Irma Eloff discussed the Sustainability Goals resp. the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations thoroughly, by also highlighting their genesis as well as future potentials for universities. In his statement, Aurora Secretary General Kees Kouwenaar addressed the specifics and peculiarities of research, teaching and learning at Aurora universities resp. the related role of the SDGs. As Lead of the Aurora Alliance work package "Sustainability Pioneers", Vice Rector for Infrastructure Wolfgang Streicher used his statement to address the overall conditions for achieving the various sustainability goals of the United Nations and explained the individual goals of the various activities in one of the central work packages of the Aurora Alliance.

The initial statements of the virtual panel triggered a very stimulating discussion among the participants of the conference. As a result of the event, a public FAQ page is planned to be set up.
