About UIBK
The University of Innsbruck was founded in 1669 and thus has a tradition of over 350 years. It is the biggest and most important research and education institution in Western Austria. Currently more than 28,000 students are enrolled in undergraduate, graduate and post graduate programmes. With 5,000 faculty and staff members, the University of Innsbruck is one of the biggest employers in Tirol.
16 faculties provide a broad spectrum of programmes in all fields of study. The University of Innsbruck is a research University with 7 major research areas:

- Digital Science Center (DiSC)
- EPoS Economy, Politics & Society
- Molecular Biosciences (CMBI)
- Physics
- Scientific Computing
There are interdisciplinary research platforms spanning over various faculties with the aim to promote networking and collaboration between scientists.

The “Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Tirol” is the main campus library and has resources for all kinds of subjects. With more than 3.6 million books, thousands of journals, e-Journals, e-books and some special collections, the “Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek” is the third largest library in Austria. Some faculties /departments have their own libraries.

Our IT Services (ZID – 'Zentraler Informatikdienst') offer many computer labs at different campuses like Campus Innrain, Campus Sowi, Faculty of Architecture and Campus Universitätsstraße (Faculty of Theology).
These labs are used for scheduled classes but can also be accessed by students when they are not occupied. You need to log in with your UIBK password and username. Some labs also offer printing and scanning options.
