Center Austria

Center Austria is based on more than three decades of cooperation with the University of Innsbruck and a Sister-City Agreement between the Cities of Innsbruck, Austria and New Orleans.

The Center was launched in the fall of 1997, and it functions as a research and discourse hub for Austrian and European Studies at UNO and in New Orleans.

Conferences & Symposia

Since the First symposium jointly organised by the University of Innsbruck and the University of New Orleans was held in New Orleans in 1982, no fewer than 31 such symposia have taken place, alternating between the two cities.

The symposia have provided a forum for American and Austrian scholars to present and discuss papers on topics of common interest with an emphasis on comparative perspectives.

Transatlantic Lecture Series

Established in 1991, the Transatlantic Lecture series brings scholars from the University of New Orleans to Innsbruck to present lectures of general academic and public interest.
In 2002, the Transatlantic Lecture Series became a cultural event when New Orleans blues singer Marva Wright was invited to perform at the fourth New Orleans Festival in Innsbruck.
