The Concept of the EPIK Domains

The Cornerstones

  • The domains are competence areas
  • The domains define both individual competences AND the configuration of the system structures
  • The domains determine the day-to-day professionalism of teachers

  • The domains define individual competences and require relevant knowledge and ability from the teachers. At the same time they require structures in which these competences can evolve, grow and develop further.
  • The domains have to be developed and worked out within the subject area, but can only develop fully when individual learning processes and more intense development phases in the whole system take place together.
  • The domains determine teachers‘ day-to-day teaching, irrespective of the subject they teach or the kind of school they teach at. Hence there is a kind of bonding framework in professionalism, irrespective of school type or subject.
  • The domains provide diverse connecting points for consideration in school development, further development of teacher training and padagogical concepts, which put the central attention on the diversity of children and young people.
