Franz Melzer

For my Bachelor of Science I studied Ecological Impact Assessment at the University of Koblenz-Landau, Campus Koblenz, Germany where I focused and graduated in the field of Microbiology. For my Master’s degree I moved to Innsbruck, Austria, and studied Microbiology with focus on Medical Microbiology at the Leopold-Franzens-University of Innsbruck in a Cooperation with the Master of Biotechnology at the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI). The research group of Prof. Grubeck-Loebenstein from the Institute for Biomedical Aging Research gave me the opportunity to receive my Master of Science with my studies in the field of Immunology. The research project dealt with HLA-DR in regulatory CD8 T cells in combination with aging and as a microbiological aspect we also considered infections of the human Cytomegalovirus.

In May 2018 I started my PhD in the research group of Prof. Grubeck-Loebenstein as an on-going project dealing with the molecular charaterization of CD8 HLA-DR Tregs, in detail considering age- related changes. With the PhD I am looking forward for a better understanding of the human immune system especially to hopefully support a better healthy aging.
