Haymo Pircher

During my graduate studies in chemistry I specialized in the field of biochemistry. Afterwards, I did my doctoral thesis on the topic of Jun and Myc target genes at the Institute of Biochemistry in Innsbruck, with a strong focus on protein purification. For my postdoctoral research I joined the group of Molecular and Cell Biology at the Institute for Biomedical Aging Research.
Here I have been involved in several projects related to protein biochemistry. My current main project revolves around the human mitochondrial protein FAHD1, belonging to a family of enzymes conserved throughout evolution, that has not been significantly characterized so far. We were recently able to report a novel in vitro catalytic function of FAHD1, and we are now trying to elucidate its metabolic role in vivo.
