Andrea Taferner

I began my studies with the bachelor program “Biology” at the University of Innsbruck and proceeded with the master program “Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology”. After gathering further experience with some internships, I successfully completed my master thesis “Functional analysis of senescence-related candidate genes” at the Molecular and Cell Biology group at the Institute for Biomedical Aging Research.
I am currently working on my PhD thesis “Functional analysis of the acylpyruvase FAHD-1 in C. elegans” within the PhD program “The aging of biological communication systems”. For this project I am in the process of establishing a C. elegans facility at the IBA, after gaining vital experience in this field during a four-month stay at the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Nektarios Tavernarakis in Heraklion, Crete, Greece (financed by a FEBS Short-time fellowship and an EMBO Short-time fellowship).
