Learning the foundations of snow, ice and avalanche mechanics.
Contents:
- ice and snow physics (including metamorphosis of snow)
- mechanical properties of ice and snow, material models
- stress state in the snow pack, deformation of the snow pack
- snow pressure
- avalanche release (essential factors and mechanism)
- avalanche movement: classification, velocities, forces, dynamic models, hazard zones
