The excavation of the Brenner Base Tunnel is divided into multiple construction lots. The Wolf II lot includes, besides the 3.5 km access tunnel, the excavation of the first stretch of the exploratory tunnel towards the Brenner. Besides a general overview of the Brenner Base Tunnel, there will be a presentation and a tour of the finished Wolf access tunnel, of the excavation work on the exploratory tunnel, and the large spoil disposal site in the Padastertal with spoil piles that are up to 70 m high. The tunnel system runs under the Valsertal, a side valley of the larger Wipptal. At the end of the Valsertal lies the "Natura 2000 Gebiet Valsertal”, a nature reserve of great hydrogeological importance. The tour will present the results of the extensive hydrogeological prospection work and analyses and the hydrogeological model for the Hochstegen zone in the Valsertal-Venntal-Brenner area.
