Field Trip 13
Inner gorge-slot canyon system produced by repeated major base-level changes (Northern Calcareous Alps)
Diethard Sanders, Alfred Gruber
Inner bedrock gorges are widespread in valleys of the Alps, but their development is poorly documented. Slot canyons along inner gorges, and older slot canyons filled with sedimentary successions, can constrain the age and patterns of stream incision. The excursion demonstrates an inner gorge-slot canyon system formed by repeated major base-level changes over glacial-interglacial cycles.
