Storylines of Socio-Economic and Climatic drivers for Land use and their hydrological impacts in Alpine Catchments

The aim of the research project STELLA is to quantify the influence of climate change and different forest management strategies on the water cycle of alpine catchments. As study area the forest-dominated catchment Brixental (water gauge Bruckhäusl, catchment size 322 km²) and its subcatchments in the Kitzbueheler Alps was chosen.

Some of the expected results of the project:

  • estimation of future changes in climate and forest management in the catchment Brixental,
  • evaluation of the impacts of climate and land use change on the water balance in the catchment Brixental,
  • basis for decision-making processes of land use planning and water resource management,
  • extension of the hydrological model WaSiM.

Project duration: August 15, 2014 -  August 14, 2017
