Food: A sustainable experience. Reflections on the combination of old and new for locally adapted forms of consumption and production


In order to foster the transformation of society toward sustainability, "Allianz Nachhaltige Universitäten" has developed UniNEtZ (Universitäten und Nachhaltige Entwicklungsziele). Partner institutions therefore take on so-called sponsorships and co-sponsorships for the SDGs, which implies coordinating and compiling both knowledge and activieties throughout Austria on the respective SDG. 

Previous research conducted in rural alpine areas investigated how people are positioning themselves in space, time and society when speaking about food. Both theoretical and empirical insights were used for a reflection on the significance and potential of food for the UniNEtZ webpage. Experiencing the combination of old and new knowledge, practices and skills can lead to sustainable food consumption and in connection to this also production.
