DP Austrian Studies

The Doctoral Program Austrian Studies aims to provide an interdisciplinary cooperation platform within the university as the basis for joint teaching and research. The central criteria for this cooperation primarily relate to the affected territory, its history, and its cultural phenomena. The notion of ‘Austria’ in the title is therefore understood as a ‘cultural space’ created by various societies along a timeline reaching from the Holy Roman Empire through the Habsburg Monarchy and into the immediate present of the Second Republic. The research field “Austrian Studies” is in this Doctoral Program to be regarded as an interdisciplinary field, in which numerous disciplines from five faculties at the University of Innsbruck are involved: history, literary studies, philosophy, art history, musicology, architecture, geography, and jurisprudence. The coherence of the program is generated through the choice of topics and through regular cooperation between the teaching staff and colleagues working with other formats.
