Research Center Dimensions of Literary Transfer: Transmission, Intermediation, Reception

Head

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Wegmann (Institute of German Studies)

Research Objectives

The interdisciplinary research center examines – and reflects on – dimensions of literary transfer that build on practices of translation and reception as well as adaptation and remediation. This includes the study of literary criticism, portraits of and interviews with authors, translations, and literary adaptations to films or graphic novels as well as textual criticism and research on the literary archive and canon. Instead of regarding literature simply as a fixed institution, we conceive of it as a dynamic set of practices that range from processes of production and distribution to presentation, (re-)mediation, and reception. The literary system is not so much considered a heteronomic system imposed onto authors and their texts but a network of relations that enables and shapes the autonomy of modern literature.
