Award of Excellence 2022

of Federal Minister of Education, Science and Research for graduates of doctoral studies of the academic year 2021/2022


Since 2008, the Federal Minister of Education, Science and Research has awarded an annual prize for outstanding dissertations at universities in order to set an example for the promotion of young scientists. 2022 will see the fifteenth call for nominations for this award. Overall, the best graduates of doctoral studies of the academic year 2021/2022 are to be honored with the "Award of Excellence". The prize money amounts to EUR 3,000 each. The number of nominations per university is based on the number of degrees per university.

The University of Innsbruck may nominate three persons.

Award conditions:


Austrian citizenship, EEA citizenship as well as third-country nationals and stateless persons with equal status according to § 4 StudFG


Completion of studies at the University of Innsbruck in the academic year 2021/22 (01.07.2021 - deadline for applications)


Best-graded final examination (Defensio)


The dissertation must be excellent and best evaluated

The German version prevails over the English in case deviations.

The awarding of the prize is planned for November 2022. The awards ceremony will take place on December 14, 2022 in Vienna at the “Aula der Wissenschaften”.
