Clemens-August-Andreae-Prize 2019

The Clemens-August-Andreae-Prize 2019 is awarded to the best economic dissertation that has been approved at the University of Innsbruck in the field of economics since 2017.

Dissertations in the field of economics can also be awarded if they have been approved in a doctoral programme/PhD programme at home or abroad since 2017 provided that they have been written by graduates of an economics programme at a Tyrolean university.

The prize of EUR 5,000 is awarded by the Department of Public Finance of the University of Innsbruck in memory of its founder. This prize was donated by the Deutscher Freundeskreis der Universitäten in Innsbruck e.V. on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the institute and is awarded every other year.

In addition to a "very good" rating, the dissertation must also investigate a research question of high economic or socio-political relevance. This is intended to remember Clemens-August Andreae, for whom the implementation of scientific findings in concrete economic and social policy was of vital importance.

Dissertations can be submitted if they have been assessed as "very good" or equivalent since 01.01.2017.

Submissions for the Clemens-August-Andreae-Prize 2019 must be sent in digital form by 31 March 2019 at the latest to the following e-mail address:

The submission must consist of the following documents (in PDF format):

  • Dissertation
  • Certificate of the assessment of the dissertation with "very good" or equivalent
  • Expert opinion in the context of the dissertation procedure
  • Accompanying letter (1 page) explaining the economic and socio-political relevance of the work.
  • Proof of economic studies at a university in Tyrol
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form

The best dissertation will be selected by a jury consisting of a representative of the Rectorate and a representative of the Deutscher Freundeskreis of the Universities of Innsbruck e.V. as well as three representatives of the Faculty of Economics and Statistics of the University of Innsbruck.

The Clemens-August-Andreae-Prize 2019 will be presented to the laureate at the Dies Academicus on 18.10.2019.
