Ion trap technology

Trapped ions have established themselves over the past decades as one of the most promising platforms for quantum information processing. The most significant remaining challenge is the scalability of these quantum systems beyond the size of one linear trap. Our vision to overcome this limitation is to combine the well-proven one-dimensional linear ion traps with the advantage of two-dimensional structures by switching between two directions of linear ion traps. In this project, we will investigate the exchange of RF- and DC- electrodes within the coherence times of the ions.
