Erwin Laure, Max Planck Computing and Data Facility, MPG Garching
Prof. Erwin Laure is the Director of the Max Planck Computing and Data Facility (MPCDF) of the MPG in Garching, Germany and Honorary Professor at the Technical University Munich. Before joining MPG he was Professor for High Performance Computing at KTH Stockholm and Director of the PDC Center for High Performance Computing there.

We are entering a new Era of computing with large scale HPC systems soon reaching performance levels of Exaflops. While the first systems at that level are expected to be installed in the US soon, Europe is ramping up and making firm plans towards Exascale computing via the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking. However, Exascale computing is not only a technical challenge to build those systems but also applications will have to adapt towards new technologies as well as new methods.
In this talk we give an overview of international and European activities towards Exascale and particularly discuss efforts in the European Centres of Excellence as well as the Max Planck Computing and Data Facility on enabling applications for these systems.
