Political scientists Prof. Dr. Anton Pelinka and Prof. Dr. Heinz Gärtner present a European perspective on U.S. politics.

Prof. Dr. Anton Pelinka served as Professor of Political Science at the University of Innsbruck from 1975 to 2006 and as visiting professor at Harvard University (Schumpeter Fellow), Stanford University (Austrian Chair), University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, the University of New Orleans, and the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Institute for European Studies). From 2006 - 2012 he was Professor of Nationalism Studies and Political Science at Central European University, Budapest. His research fields include Comparative Politics and Democratic Theory. His publications focus on Democratic Theory, European Integration, Comparative Politics, and Austrian Politics. He received his Doctor of Law from the University of Vienna in 1964.

Prof. Dr. Heinz Gärtner is lecturer at the Department of Political Science at the University of Vienna, at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, and at Danube University. He was academic director of the Austrian Institute for International Affairs until 2016. He held a Fulbright Fellowship as well as the Visiting Austrian Chair at the „Stanford University“ where he had further visiting fellowships. He is editor of the book series „Internationale Sicherheit“ (Peter-Lang Publisher). Heinz Gärtner is senior external expert of the „RAND-Corporation Europe“ and he chairs the advisory board Strategy and Security of the Austrian Armed Forces. Among others, he is member of the editorial board of the Journal “International Politics” and the “World Journal of Behavioral Science“ (Synchro Publisher), and member of the Advisory Board of the “International Institute for Peace” in Vienna and the Journal “Security and Peace.” Heinz Gärtner received the Bruno Kreisky (legendary former Austrian Chancellor) “Award for most outstanding Political Books.”
