Our new members IRKS

Since this semester the research group "Law, Security and Society" is a new member of EPoS. Therefore, we would like to introduce this exciting new group to you in a little more detail.

This new research group aims to promote inter-institutional and inter-faculty research cooperation on the topics of "Law, Security and Society", starting from the already interdisciplinary Institute for Applied Sociology of Law and Crime (IRKS). It is envisaged to explore cooperation possibilities as a research group within the framework of the research area EPoS.

The IRKS is one of the leading institutes in European security research and is based in Vienna. It was founded in 1973 as a non-university research institution and has been part of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the Leopold Franzens University of Innsbruck since March 2021.

We conduct research in interdisciplinary teams on topics such as security, crime, violence and extremism, legal norms, social control and social work. Our studies accompany the implementation of measures and laws and record the effects of social and legal interventions with a diverse and elaborate range of methods. With our scientific findings, we pursue the central concern of strengthening the rule of law, social security and the social participation of as many stakeholders as possible.
