Intergenerational relations, educational research and youth research
Thematic Content
The research area deals with the relationship between the generations and the educational, learning and training processes from childhood to adulthood.
The relationship between the generations is thematised both in the context of educational intergenerational relationships (e.g. in the family and school) and against the background of social intergenerational relationships. Pedagogical intergenerational relationships are regarded as important learning contexts and analysed with regard to their educational potential, but also with regard to their risks for individual development and the reproduction of social inequality. Changes in social generational situations are analysed and socio-historical change in the field of upbringing and education is researched.
Special attention is paid to adolescence. The development of relationships, education and identity in this phase of life as well as how young people deal with individual and social challenges (such as the environmental crisis) are given special attention. Linked to this is the question of how young people's ability to act and participate in society can be promoted through educational processes and (social) pedagogical measures.
