General Educational Sciences and History of Education
General Educational Sciences and Historical Educational Research analyse fields of action of educational practice and areas of educational theory formation in their relationship to the foundations of the discipline. Using cultural studies and historical approaches, it contextualises the social conditions that shape them and enters into dialogue with the sub-disciplines.
This dialogue serves to clarify and further develop basic concepts (e.g. education, upbringing, teaching-learning, socialisation), it addresses the history of pedagogical ideas and theory as well as the history of its objects and discusses the theoretical foundations and various directions (e.g. humanities pedagogy, empirical, critical and reflective Educational Sciences). In dialogue, pedagogical-anthropological theorems, methodological decisions and specific research methods (e.g. hermeneutic, ethnographic, discourse-analytical and reconstructive methods) are also critically addressed and questions of successful pedagogical practice are analysed in different historical and current contexts.
With the questions of empiricism, theory, idea, practice, poesis and contingency posed from a historical perspective, General Educational Sciences still has a structuring and questioning function in the basic conditions of education today. Against this background, it aims to contribute to the development and contouring of the subject.
