Study and teaching

The courses offered by the Critical Gender Studies teaching and research area cover the entire degree programme in Educational Sciences.

In the compulsory module 7 (Gender Relations in Education, Training and Society) at Bachelor's degree programme in Educational Sciences, a lecture and several seminars on basic questions of Educational Sciences gender studies are offered. Selected problems and issues in Educational Sciences Gender Studies are also included in seminars and working groups in other compulsory and elective BA modules. There is also a "Seminar with Bachelor's thesis: Gender Studies" (compulsory module 15), which enables students to focus on gender studies in Educational Sciences as part of their qualification work. In the years 2015-2021, staff from the Critical Gender Studies teaching and research area supervised 173 Bachelor's theses, which were completed.

In Master's programme Educational Sciences, questions of critical gender studies are explicitly discussed as cross-cutting issues in the areas of "Inequality and Inclusion in Education, Childhood and Family" and "Body Relations in Education, Training and Culture". This means that empirical and theoretical studies from these areas of gender research in Educational Sciences can be carried out in the Master's thesis.

Courses from Interdepartmental Master's programme "Gender, Culture and Social Change" can also be completed via the "Individual specialisation" module and integrated into the Master's degree programme in Educational Sciences.

The Critical Gender Studies teaching and research area is also involved in the design and implementation of Interdepartmental Master's Programme Gender, Culture and Social Change. The team contributes to teaching in MA compulsory module 4 (Inequality, Difference and Power II: VO2 History and Theory of Social Inequality and Inclusion and SE2 Intersectionality and Power Relations). The same applies to teaching in MA elective module 9 (Body and Body Relations in Education, Training and Culture: VU2 Body Relations and Gender and SE2 Eros, Sexuality and Gender Relations), which results from a double assignment of an elective module from the Master's programme in Educational Sciences.

In the years 2015-2021, staff from the Critical Gender Studies teaching and research area supervised 36 Master's theses in the Master's degree programme in Educational Sciences and 21 Master's theses in the Master's degree programme in Gender, Culture and Social Change, which were completed.

The Critical Gender Studies teaching and research area has also been involved in the design and implementation of the Doctoral programmes Gender and Gender Relations in Transformation: Spaces - Relations - Representations of Centre for Gender Studies Innsbruck (CGI)) since 2017.
