Our study highlights how substrate consistency, oxygenation, and organic matter dynamics influence the transition from deposit-feeding to microbe-dependent colonization strategies. It contributes to better understanding of habitat modifying biotic-abiotic processes and ecosystem functioning in the Hadal zone.
