Project brief

As part of the EU research project 3ENCULT, a PV test system was installed on the south-facing roof of the NMS Hötting for research purposes; the latest data can be accessed online via the tigo Energy portal. This system was deliberately installed in the immediate vicinity of a plant room and is therefore subject to partial shading in the afternoons. To prevent significant losses in energy yield, the system was fitted with a specialised system to optimise the Maximum Power Point (MPP) for each individual module. Remote monitoring allows the individual power outputs, as well as the module temperature and irradiance, to be read.

Workflow and Methodology

As part of this Bachelor’s thesis, the measurement data is to be collected and analysed. The aim is to determine the potential for improvement compared with a conventional system, which is protected against power losses solely by bypass diodes. Advantages are expected in particular during periods of partial shading.

The results are to be presented in an educational format so that they can be used by students as a practical example in a lecture or further training course.
