I am studying Ecology and Biodiversity for my master’s degree, and I am working on the western capercaillie Tetrao urogallus. My focus is on population genetics and dynamics of this charismatic and vulnerable species, in the frame of an extensive monitoring project of grouse in Tyrol. For my thesis, I will genotype feaces and feathers collected in East-Tyrol using a set of microsatellite markers. I aim to investigate effective population size, relatedness, and connectivity of the subpopulations, including in the context of habitat size and quality.
