I am currently studying Biology and Italian at the University of Innsbruck for my Diploma’s degree in the Teacher Training Programme.
For my thesis work, I am comparing morphological features of different Daphnia species within the Daphnia longispina species complex. The members of this species complex frequently hybridize and show a high degree of phenotypic plasticity, which complicates morphological identification of the species. In this project, I aim to identify species-diagnostic morphological features using geometric morphometrics and to assess the suitability of morphological analyses for species identification in this complex.
Research Topics:
- Traditional morphology and geometric morphometrics
- Speciation and gene flow
- Hybridisation
