While finishing my master thesis in the Molecular Ecology Group, where I worked with the vinegar fly Drosophila nigrosparsa, I started working in the Research Group Microbial Resource Management, where we established a laboratory population of the black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens. In my PhD Project, I am concentrating on the ability of bioconversion of organic waste by larvae of the black soldier fly and the potential use of the larvae as feedstuff for various fish species.
Research Topics
- Waste management and monitoring
- Life history
Working title PhD thesis: Using Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) for the exploitation of protein and fat out of biological waste.
