Currently, I am studying zoology at the University of Innsbruck. Due to several field trips to the tropics of Costa Rica, I became very interested in social insects. In my master thesis, we take a closer look at the behaviour, social organisation, and population genetics of the alpine ant Tetramorium alpestre. In this species, populations starkly differ in behaviour patterns and social structures. We want to determine which mechanisms lead to the observed intraspecific divergence using microsatellite analysis, bioassays, and behaviour assays. The results of the assays will be interpreted in the context of genomic and transcriptomic data.

Research Topics:

  • Social organisation
  • Population genetics
  • Behaviour

I am also interested in:

  • Fish biology
  • Limnology
