Research Focus

Our research focuses on the reconstruction of past environmental changes from biological, mineralogical and geo-chemical records in lake sediment profiles. We are particularly interested in the impact of atmospheric deposition, human activities and climate on alpine lakes. Lakes at different elevations (ca. 600 –2900m above sea level) are compared to investigate the influence of weathering rates, dust depositions, atmospheric pollution, and of the extent of soil cover, vegetation, and perennial snow fields on lake biogeochemistry. Long term changes reconstructed from biological and geochemical sediment records are compared with seasonal and annual changes in limnochemistry.
