International Cooperative Programme on Assessment and Monitoring of Air Pollution Effects on Forests

Thomas Peham, Erwin Meyer

In 1986 the United Nations - Economic Commission for Europe started the „International Cooperative Programme on Assessment and Monitoring of Air Pollution Effects on Forests“ and established 1993 two forest permanent observation plots in the province Bozen (Montiggl and Ritten).

Soil zoological investigations started in 1993 and were repeated under a uniform procedure in 2000 and 2010. The investigations encompassed the assessment of abundance, biomass and vertical distribution of soil macrofauna, soil mesofauna and Enchytraeidae. Lumbricidae, Diplopoda were identified to species level, Diptera larvae and Coleoptera larvae to family level.
