30-170 Assessment

 

Overview

The course element Assessment provides a space to assess performances that cannot be explicitly submitted electronically, like for example presentations and other oral test performances. Moreover, this assessment can be used in combination with other course elements, for example the participant folder. Assessable course elements like the test, the self-test, task, grouptask, tally list and portfolio task do not need the separate course element assessment.

Important Steps

  1. Open your course via Authoring.
  2. Click onto Administration and then onto Course editor. The Course editor opens up.
  3. Choose Insert course elements in the upper left-hand corner and under Assessment the course element Assessment. The course element has been added to the course structure and can (if necessary) be moved to a different place via Drag&Drop. Alternatively it is possible to add course elements with the Quick-Add function in the yellow-lined menu on top of the course: Insert the name of the course element into the Quick-Add bar and push the Enter button.
  4. Fill in the title shown in the course structure under Title in the tab Title and description and, if desired, fill in the Description. Click onto Insert additional information to add Objectives, instructions or instructions for the coach. In Addition to this, you can Set a link for this course element by clicking onto the blue text and copying the predefined link. Save your changes.
  5. In the tabs Visibility and Access or Learning path you can, if desired, regulate the visibility and the access to the course elements:
    • If your course is a conventional course, you will find more detailed information in HelpCard 10-030.
    • If your course is a learning path course, you will find more detailed information in HelpCard 10-031. In addition to the options for completion criteria mentioned there you have a choice between the following conditions as well:
      • Score: The course element is done when a points minimum score has been reached. Please note: A minimum score and a maximum score have to be filled in the tab Assessment.
      • Passed: The course element is done when it has been assessed as passed either manually or automatically. Please note: If you tick the option automatically by threshold score besides Type of display in the tab Assessment, fill in at which score the course element will be marked as passed.
      • Coach has set status to “done”: the course element is done when the course owner or coach has set the status of the assessment to “done” in the assessment tool or in the course element assessment.
  6. In the tab Layout you can change the layout of course elements. You can add background images to course elements or change the font colour. How to do this you will find in HelpCard 10-033 Layout.
  7. In the tab Assessment you can determine the detailed configuration:
    • Rubric assessment: You can create a rubric form or select an already created one that can be used to assess participants.
    • Choose if you would like to grant a score or not (If you do, a minimum and a maximum score has to be filled in here).
    • Choose if you would like to Display passed / not passed to participants and if this is to be done manually by coach or automatically by threshold score (this configuration is only available if you grant a score).
    • Furthermore, you have options to hand out an individual comment or individual assessment documents.
  8. Click onto the red X in the upper right-hand corner to close the course editor. To publish these changes, choose the option Yes, automatically (for further information about the publishing of course contents see HelpCard 10-020). The course view has been adjusted to include any changes made.
  9. The actual assessment is done in the course view. Select the desired participant. The Assessment form opens up.
  10. There you can fill in the assessment form with optional comments and save your changes in several ways:
    • Intermediate save: The assessment is not yet completed and the intermediate result will not be published to the participants.
    • Intermediate save and release: The assessment is not yet completed, but the success status and an optional comment are displayed to the participants and coaches.
    • Finalize assessment and release: The assessment is completed and the participants and coaches are shown the success status and an optional comment.
    • Finalize assessment: The assessment is completed, but no result is displayed to the participants.
  11. Completed and/or released assessments can be reopened or the release withdrawn by selecting the participant as in step 9 and selecting the respective button there.
  12. You can also close or change the release of multiple assessments in the participant list at the same time by clicking the box to the left of the user ID and then clicking the respective buttons at the top of the list.
  13. Alternatively, you can perform multiple assessments at the same time using the Start new bulk assessment option at the top right and a standardized Excel spreadsheet. This option can also be found in the Assessment tool under Administration (see HelpCard 20-080).
