Populist Features of the New Testament
Populism is a significant feature of political life in the 21st century. The New Testament (NT) has a part to play in the rise of populism in the West, insofar as it is discursively used by populist leaders as a shared system of signification in the construction of a "people".

I address features of populism in the ancient world, particularly those features which are found in the NT, suggesting that the New Testament provides a discursive basis for constructing populist identity then and now.
