WORKSHOP Peace in the World Today: New and Simple Tools for Educators to Introduce Peace Studies in Their Classrooms Carolina Arcila (University of Innsbruck) From a global to a local context, this workshop will bring together educators in an open environment to explore and expand their own notions of peace and how to bring peace studies alive in their classrooms. Using the multicultural context of Canada, this workshop will cover a series of topics surrounding the importance of youth learning about peace. Firstly, the concept of peace will be introduced as seen from a Canadian perspective and in relation to the rest of the world. A discussion will then follow including practical learning of the topic through a series of activities. Educators will leave this workshop with a strong understanding of the value of introducing peace to their students, as well as simple tools and skills they can implement in their classrooms to start creating a new culture of peace. |

GASTVORTRAG Nicodemus Frischlin's Approach to the Byzantine Triad of Aristophanes Patrick Hadley (University of Toronto) Among the ancient Greek authors reintroduced to Western European audiences during the Renaissance, Aristophanes was perhaps the most troublesome. Although his works were highly regarded as an unequaled source of the "pure Attic" which students were expected to master, the topicality and perceived extreme obscenity of his comedies often precluded any serious and prolonged scholarly engagement with them. GASTVORTRAG Catherine Parayre (Brock University) Visual arts have always been central to literature and vice versa. One needs only to mention illuminations in medieval manuscripts, sixteenth-century emblemata, calligrammes, captions under paintings or in comic books, text in a visual piece, etc. In addition, various authors, notably Marcel Proust in the early twentieth century, have developed a literary style influenced by visual-arts practices, in particular photography, although they do not insert pictures in their texts. Taking Proust as an example, the first part of the presentation will outline relevant elements in such an interaction. Im Rahmen der LV "Kulturgeschichte II, geleitet von Dr. Doris Eibl Datum: 19.
